Why do pneumatic flow regulators have a minimum pressure rating?
Devices like the Parker VQB12-Q-0-5
As I understand it they work by moving a needle into an orifice to constrict the Air Flow path. Obviously they have a maximum pressure rating, but they all have a minimum pressure rating as well. Why? Surely they will restrict the flow whatever the pressure is?
Is it the point at which the flow becomes laminar?
I don’t know from experience, but your thesis about maintaining laminar flow is likely. Below a specific speed the turbulent flow will detach itself inside and give an unsteady rate of flow, which is not the role for which the regulator is intended.
